Hi there: I'm afraid this is going to be a bunch of words. The expansion reads a laundry list of conditionals from the main game and so the safest way to play it, reactivity wise, is to start a new game. That said, the expansion should appear if you've completed the main game. It specifically unlocks if you have had the final Fran conversation where she tells you to "Go to Hell". The travel pamphlet for Hell should then appear in the bottom righthand corner of the main menu. This should be true even if you experienced this conversation in your current game before updating to get expansion content. (Note: you need to select Start Game one last time to see this conversation with Fran). If you're not seeing the pamphlet, try going back into Start Game. If the pamphlet still isn't showing up, please let me know. Sorry for the wall of text. Hopefully this helps. <3
I am using PC on windows 10, specifically the 64 file (I have also tried the other file but to no avail). I spent almost an hour last night uninstalling and reinstalling both versions from both the itch app and directly from the files and neither works at any point. It would take me to the screen where I could choose to start, play a second of music, and then immediately close. I tried troubleshooting it’s compatibility and running it in different compatibility modes just in case, and none of those worked for it either. I even bought it on steam briefly to see if it were a problem with itch and it still wouldn’t open. Sometimes it would allow me to click a button or a loading pop up would come on with one of the ghosts on it but it would just close down immediately after they did. Once I went through all of the things I possibly could, I went to see if it were compatible with my drivers and computer settings and it was as far as I could see. Sorry to bother you guys! Thank you for taking the time to reply.
Thank you for these details. We will look into this and try to figure out what's going on. Let's please take this conversation into email if you're comfortable: support@copychaser.com.
Sorry for such a late response. I'm Andrew and have been helping out Copychaser with some programming tasks.
Would you be be able to check if a log is being generated? You can find logs in your appdata folder, specifically:
C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\LocalLow\Copychaser Games\Speed Dating For Ghosts\output_log.txt
If you could, please send that to support@copychaser.com. That will give us some insights as to what is happening when you run the game and hopefully find a solution for you.
I loved this! I was skeptical at first, but this game is incredibly charming. I find myself missing the ghosts already, now that I've finished up my first playthrough! I'll have to start over sometime, if I can bring myself to reset my save...(I suspect it's worth it, though)
Hi there. Thank you for letting me know about this issue. I am investigating what could be going on here. A couple questions: are you running the latest OS (Catalina)? And are you running the game through the itch.io app or directly from the files? Thanks and sorry this is happening. I'll get to the bottom of it, dang it. - Ben
I also cannot run the game on Mac. (Have previously played on iOS and loved it!)
I'm on MacOS Catalina, 10.15.5, attempting to run directly from the file. There seem to be a number of things that could be applications in the download, the most promising seemed to be \Speed Dating for Ghosts\Itch\Speed Dating for Ghosts, which is 283mb. It gives a generic error message: "The application "Speed Dating for Ghosts" can't be opened." I have tried the Control-Click open trick (which overrides security to open apps MacOS doesn't recognize, primarily things you didn't get from the Mac app store), but I get the same error.
The download also includes a \_MACOSX\ folder with the same folder structure, but the Speed Dating for Ghosts app there is 0 bytes and I try to open it, I get the error that it may be damaged or incomplete.
Hopefully this is some help. Thanks for such a fun, surreal, sad, and sweet game!
Hey there: Thanks for these detailed notes on the issue. We have uploaded a new build for Mac that should fix the unzipping error (Mac OS changed the way they unzip and it looks like it was breaking things). Please let us know if you continue to experience issues. <3 - Ben
Heartwarming and occasionally grim, this spooky interactive narrative is a great way to spend an evening. Content warnings: death, murder (no graphic violence, but a bit unsettling). 4/5 stars - excellent.
Hi! I really enjoyed this! My only critique is that I can't replay *just* the speed-date portion that I messed up -- I didn't realize when I went in that the speed dates were a one-time thing, or I wouldn't have shut Leon down the way I did. And now I'd have to replay everything in order to get him at the dance. :'(
Other than that, this game was really great!
Edit: oh, wait! On more thing. When playing with controller, the thing you're selecting is muted/less visible than the thing you didn't select. This seems counterintuitive and caused me to decline speed-dating when I first started up the game. The main menu has selected text turn purple, so maybe the same thing can be done throughout the rest of the game?
Ah. Thank you for the kind words and feedback. Re: ghosts available vs. not available based on choice, I was trying to go for consequences for choices made. I think maybe I got a little over zealous with those consequences, given how far reaching they go (literally replaying the whole game to get redo one ghost). The game is such a web of conditionals I'm afraid to pull a thread like this now for fear of introducing instability. But I will take this feedback going forward on my next choice-centric narrative project, ensuring checkpoints that allow players more trial and error. <3
Oh, I just started it up again and... I'm sad I missed out on a bunch of the dances too. :'( I think there needs to be clearer indication that you only have two chances at the dance. Since I only had a few minutes to play, I did one dance at a time figuring I could go back and revisit, but now I really do have to start over completely from scratch. I don't suppose you have a save file that's at the ending with all the ghosts unlocked, right before the dance?
Sorry to be a bother. I loved all the ghosts and want to see the rest of their stories!
Sadly, I don't have a save file ready to go with all the dances unlocked. The two opportunities gate was meant to encourage players to choose carefully and replay the game to see other routes in conversation, but I totally get how it's frustrating, especially because it isn't clearly telegraphed. I'll talk over what a patch could look like for this with our programmer, but I'm neck deep in two new projects so it'll be something that unfortunately comes later rather than sooner. Until then, a speedrun through the dates again might be the quicker way to unlock for now. :(
All of the ghosts were incredibly charming and engaging, I went in with little to no expectations and was completely surprised by how invested I got into the lives of every ghost and just how captivating this game was.
Tried it because it was in the Justice bundle, was only intending to play for five minutes or so to get a general idea but ended up hooked! The characters were so oddly engaging and the willingness to discuss difficult subject matter and handle it sensitively is admirable. Definitely recommend it to others.
<3 Thank you. Word of mouth has been primarily how we've found an audience for this weird game. Every time someone tells a friend it helps us so much. <3 <3
vaguely unsettled, vaguely nostalgic, and very very glad i played this game. it really touched me. thank you for making it -- i'll probably head on over to the switch eshop so i can toss you some cash since I got this in the bundle (and see my favourite ghosts full screen!) also, major kudos re: the music! (and the way it changes in That One Situation involving a certain character. it made the atmosphere so cool. not that it wasn't already MINT, but. i live for this kind of thing)
<3 Thank you for taking the time so say these super nice things about our ghosts and supporting us on Switch! I'll let Mikey know you liked his music! - Ben :)
We just played two rounds of this for the first time. It has such a beautiful design that allows you to truly connect with the ghosts. Heartfelt, well written, and with a moving soundtrack to boot. Can't recommend enough.
Just finished playing it and it's already one of my favorite games of all time. I can't fully explain it, but it just really struck a chord with me. All of the different characters and each of their unique stories are grounded in something that feels so real and genuine on such a deeply human level (even with characters that are very decidedly not human) that makes the whole experience feel like so much more than a game. Speed Dating for Ghosts manages to perfect a balance between poignant and hilariously quirky and it's absolutely stellar. I can't recommend it enough and I'll definitely be keeping up with any future projects from the talented people who worked to create this gem of a game :D
We actually just announced a new thing. There's a short demo, but it's very much a work in progress so far. It's only on Steam for now unfortunately. When all is said and done it will be a lot of weird words and tons of reactivity/variation.
Mikey, who did the music and art, also just announced a free beta of his tabletop RPG. It's super weird and rad and yeah. Now I feel like I'm just advertising our stuff. But just in case you want to check it out, here is a link! I'm trying to convince him to do a video game version with me.
This is one of my favourite games now, the writing is FABULOUS. i loved each and every character. but i got a bit frustrated with the ending? i noticed that (SPOILER!) a certain choice made in relation to a stake had an effect on the last collection of scenes in hell when i noticed i could go back and use it, and then i feel like that messed up the scene and then i couldnt fix it because the game told me i can only erase all data ... and i really dont want to go through all that again! i also wish i knew if i could have helped some of my favourites, and if more of the endings vary but now i cant...
Ah. Thank you for this feedback and also the kind dang words. The stake is definitely a variant. It's meant to mess things up a bit at the end and encourage a second go around to try different paths. But I totally get how that's frustrating, happening right at the end and all.
i actually love the idea, its always a lovely feature to have in a game like this. but there is just so much content in the whoole thing to replay it just for that one bit. i was trying to find out if any other endings vary to see if it would be worth for me to try and look for more interesting options but i couldnt find anything about that on the internet? so im not sure
hey, would you mind telling me which decision you made exactly regarding the stake that led to that happening D: i would've direct messaged you about this if i could since i don't mind spoilers but i know some people would but i don't think that's an option here on itch.io :( totally get if you don't want to say, just figured i should try asking :•)
ok so i dont see an option to hide spoilers on itch,io (lots of useful features not on here lol) but basically ***SPOILER*** i took the stake from the vampire girl and put it in andy when he was dissapearing and that was kind of a bad choice
ahhhhhh |||||***SPOILER***||| would the taking the stake part you're talking about be the one on the beach when you can choose to either call out to agatha the vampire while she's looking for it and (presumably) give her back the stake or say nothing and keep it? that actually really helps, i was asking because i was really torn on which decision i should make there but i think i'll give the stake back to agatha now. thank you for taking the time to reply, i really appreciate it!!
This game is gorgeous! It all feels so thoughtfully made, the design and music are perfect and the characters are beautifully written. I loved playing it, thank you! And thanks also for adding it to the bundle for racial justice and equality!!
This game probably will make you cry- weep, even. Especially Hattie and Dave, those two hit really close to home for me. The game is short but the characters are so well written they leave an enormous impact on you. The character design and music is so charming.
I just played Speed Dating, and I love it! I wanted to ask—would it be okay if I potentially got a tattoo of Kyo with the quote about needing sad things?
Ah! <3 A rad player got a Gary tattoo a while back and we were floored that someone liked our ghosts enough to bring one of them along for the ride. We'd be honored if you got Kyo. <3 - Ben
I love your game ! Iam organizing a gaming festival at the end of November ( this year) about digital immortality ( do you want infinite lives ) and i was wondering if we could show your game there ?

such a fun little game, did a single playthrough and can't wait to do more

Hello, I played the game in the past and I want to star it again to play immediately the expansion.
Can you please tell me which files I must transfer from my old file to the new one so it work correctly?
Thank you!!!

this game is very lovely, it brought me to tears. A wonderful and humorous story!
When I try to open it, it brings me to the start screen but then closes on its own. How can I fix this?

Great game! So absurd and so whimsical in its simplicity. Each character is so unique. Good one for the Halloween season. (spoiler let's play)
I really enjoyed this, it was such a pleasant experience and I'm definitely going to have to come back for more in the future.
If there are any more characters as cute as Kyo I'm going to die
i cried. (spoilers)
Super cute and eerie! The art is adorable and fun to look at. I love that there are so many endings! Made a lil let’s play for it. 💕
Darn I got really scared at Gary. But the rest of the game is really sweet! I loved it :D
Cute game. I enjoyed my date with Gary. :)
so cute and SO fun
I'd die for spooky peter

as excellent as (un)expected!
Really touching stories - really enjoyed this game!

I am enjoying the crap out of this little gem! It's honestly such a weird concept but it is so well done. I love it.
Just wanted to add, genuinely enjoyed and found this game funny to play through. Thanks for the experience!

Thank you for letting us know. Blarg. We will continue to dig into this.
Any chance of a linux build? (And thanks also for adding it to the bundle for racial justice and equality!!)
loved this game!! I have a soft spot for Kyo and Agatha. plus the music was fantastic, nice and atmospheric!! Awesome game!

Loved the concept and the art! The stories are sweet and well-written. My favorites are Kyo and Gary, with Vera and Dave as runner-ups :)
<3
amazing game! really loved the writing in there

I love Kyo so much. This game is beautiful.

This game reminds me of this song.
Also Undertale for some reason, even though I'm pretty sure you can't date ghosts.
This song is rad. Thank you for posting this. <3
No problem, thanks for taking time out of your day to reply. I really appreciate it.
More ghost hop hip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smIFxphcPLI
Omg thanks
This is friggin good and sounds like really similar lol
Except it's... Chinese? I really don't know
It's about a dream or something in a dancehall surrounded by ghosts and dead people, I think? Japanese, but I don't understand it too well.
